Chiang Mai 2023 | Coming soon
10-19 November 2023
Awakening Bangkok light fest to light up the city on Nov 24 to Dec 3, with a Chiang Mai spinoff planned
The wait is over. Awakening Bangkok has confirmed its show dates. The lighting festival will run from November 24 until December 3 and, for the first time, will be showing in venues outside of Charoenkrung.
Immersive installations and digital art showcases will be exhibited at key landmarks in areas around Phra Nakhon and Pak Klong Talad in the Old Town, such as the Flower Market, Yodpiman Riverwalk, Bamrung Mueng and Feueng Nakhon Roads, and the Giant Swing.
The theme for 2023, “Time Passage”, represents the significance of these intertwined historic streets, which served as channels that transported all mankind—rich or poor, living or dead—for centuries. It also highlights how the Old Town was bridged with the New.
But that’s not all for November! Awakening is expanding outside of the capital and staging its first show in the Rose of the North. The inaugural Awakening Chiang Mai is set for November 10 to 19 and will be set along the tiny streets that snake through the old trading area between the city walls and Ping River known as Chang Moi and Tha Pae. Specific show spots are yet to be unveiled.
The Chiang Mai festival will follow the theme “Polar-Rise,” symbolizing Chiang Mai’s significant growth as a hub for creativity in the north, and its efforts to combat climate change and the threat of pollution. Just like in Bangkok, Awakening Chiang Mai will feature the work of local talents.
The Awakening committee is now accepting submissions for projects to be featured in both the Bangkok and Chiang Mai festivals. Professional and amateur artists are both welcome, including college students and non-digital art peers. Successful submissions will receive sizable funds to produce the showpiece.
