Boutique Soho theatre turned cabaret joint
The Underbelly Boulevard replaces the sadly shortly-lived Boulevard Theatre, a boutique theatre venue with an impressive initial line-up that was totally screwed over by the pandemic and never reopened.
We’re not quite clear to what extent the Underbelly Boulevard is likely to be physically different inside – from the supplied press images, it looks like it will remain pretty much indentical – but the vibe seems very much to be ‘cabaret’ rather than ‘theatre’.
Meanwhile it old in-house operated restaurant has been replaced by Cafe Kitty, the new venue from Kitty Fisher’s Group.
The first show at the newly rebranded Underbelly Boulevard is a night of cabaret – or should that be kabarett – from arch German chanteuse Bernie Dieter. We’re promised a ‘luxuriously gin-soaked, Weimar-punk evening’ from emcee Dieter and her gang, who comprise performers Adam Malone, Blue Phoenix, The Seifert Sisters, Joe Keeley and Bella Diosa.
